Year 6 - Start of year information
Hi everybody, wow! What an exciting few days in school …we have already had our Bikeablity sessions. The instructors were so impressed with the children’s attitude and ability that that managed to complete it in fewer days.
We have also started our DART - PHSE sessions- today and the children really listened well in this. Well done Sharks!
This week’s super stars are now available on our ‘News page’ please take a look.
Reading
The vast majority of the children in the class have completed an Accelerated Reader assessment to determine their reading book level. Thus, they have been sent home with their new reading book and reading record. Their Times Table Rock Stars and Edshed login details have also been stuck inside the front cover.
Weekly Homework
All children in Key Stage 2 receive the following homework:
A minimum of 15 minutes TT Rockstars (A minimum of 1 attempt on Studio).
A minimum of 15 minutes Spellings (3 assignments on Ed Shed)
A minimum of 30 minutes reading (it would be extremely beneficial to your child if you could listen to them read for 10 minutes each week).
On the sessions where your child reads alone (many children enjoy to read individually and this is perfectly fine) they are permitted to fill in their own reading diary but an adult must sign this off.
Within your child's Accelerated Reader login they will have Comprehension quizzes to complete when they've finished a book. These quizzes help them to reach their target in their reading for each term. Your child will be given time in class to complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz and will be encouraged to meet 100% by the end of the half term so that they can be rewarded.
PE- Thursdays
Thank you for sending your children with their PE kit on Thursday. This half term’s focus is Golf.
