Stopping Domestic Abuse Together (SDAT)

Stopping Domestic Abuse Together (SDAT) is an initiative led by Derbyshire Police in conjunction with Children’s Social Care, Health Services, schools and other agencies, who work together to safeguard children and adults.

Domestic Abuse can encompass but is not limited to the following types of abuse:

  • Psychological
  • Physical
  • Sexual
  • Financial
  • Emotional

What is SDAT?

SDAT is an early notification system to schools to quickly notify them of any incidents of domestic abuse where the Police have attended a household where children live. It is the local version of Operation Encompass.

This enables schools to understand changes in a child's behaviour, attitude or general presentation and to support children if needed.

What happens when we receive a notification?

The aim of sharing information is to ensure our children are protected from the impact of domestic abuse.  Schools are notified so that they can observe and offer appropriate support to children who have been involved in, or witnessed, a domestic abuse incident.

The police will share specific information about an incident with Children’s Social Care and our safeguarding team here in school. The information will be received securely and confidentially by the trained safeguarding leads, who are available to liaise with Children's Social Care and the police and to use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the child(ren).

If we receive a SDAT notification we will make sure that one of our safeguarding team are available to offer support.

When we receive a domestic abuse notification, we will routinely monitor the child’s welfare and engage with partner agencies where required.  This is part of our safeguarding commitment to safeguard all our students. Only safeguarding school staff receive the notifications and the notifications do not include details of the incident, just a notification that something has happened.  The aim of schools being notified is so that support for the student can be put in place.

Our trained staff are also available to offer support and advice about other agencies who may be able to assist children and families. You can email the safeguarding team securely and in confidence at: safeguarding@stonebroom-cnet.org
