This week we have been looking at the surface of the moon! We talked about how from Earth the moon's surface can look smooth but actually it is uneven and covered in craters. We then thought about what caused craters to form on the moon and we learnt that it was asteroids and meteors crashing into the moon's surface.

We decided to carry out an investigation to see how the asteroids and meteors caused the craters. We had a bowl of flour which acted as the moon's surface and to begin with it was even and smooth. We then had a Plasticine ball which acted as the asteroid. We dropped the Plasticine ball from a height to form craters in the even surface. At the end of our investigation the moon's surface had become uneven and covered in craters. It was lots of fun and we now have a better understanding of what has happened to the moon over time.
