Yesterday afternoon Elephant class decided that we needed more work on recognising the value of numicon shapes- a resource that we use frequently in our Math lessons so we worked as a team to make a numicon village!
Once in pairs, we decided which numicon shape we struggle most to remember. We then used our large numicon shapes and card to draw around that numicon piece and colour it in the relevant colour. After that we changed them into buildings by adding a roof and a door (including the door number, to help us remember its value!) Finally we used the circles as windows, adding a person to each window and counting them carefully, again reinforcing the value of the shapes. We had lots of fun and we were very proud when we saw our village complete!
