We are really enjoying learning about castles in History this half term.
This afternoon we have learnt all about motte and bailey castles. These were the first castles built in England. We know that the words 'motte' and 'bailey' come from France (we know the link to William the Conqueror). Motte means mound and bailey means closed land. We learnt how motte and bailey castles would be good for defence. After we went outside to make our own motte and bailey castle. We worked so well as a team and then labelled our structure using the key vocabulary from the lesson. To end the lesson we worked in pairs to make a mini motte and bailey castle out of playdoh.
