KS2 Accelerated Reader - Information for Parents1 November 2022 (by admin) |
Details about Accelerated Reader and myON - our new approach to reading in KS2.
In order to enhance the teaching of reading at Stonebroom Primary & Nursery School further, we have introduced 'Accelerated Reader' into KS2.
Accelerated Reader is a computer program that helps teachers manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child takes a 'Star Reader Test' every half term at school which gives them a ZPD score. Your child picks a book at this colour level and reads it at their own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer -passing the quiz is an indication that your child understood what was read. Accelerated Reader gives children & teachers feedback based on the quiz results, which the teacher then uses to help your child set goals and direct ongoing reading practice. It also ensures that your child is reading books at an appropriate level for their ability.
Your child's login details are in their homework diary. Your child can access a quiz at home by clicking the link on the school website - Pupils - Kidzone - English - Accelerated Reader. Your child can complete a quiz based on their reading book and also on any book they are reading at home.
Your child also has access to 'myON' - this is a digital library containing thousands of books. Follow the link below to the school curriculum page and scroll down for more details about Accelerated reader and myON.
